Welcome!
The Hampstead Train Station Committee, a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization, is working to restore Hampstead, Maryland's historic train station. We are making progress through
the generous donations of money, time, and materials from individuals and businesses in our community.
If you would like to help please send a donation to
the address below. You can learn more about our project by attending our monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of every
month at the train station, located on Gill Avenue in Hampstead, at 7 PM.
It is our hope that the restored structure will serve
as a museum and visitor's center, and a proud symbol of the town of Hampstead.

Hampstead Day 2005
The train station was open for visitors for the first
time since the beginning of our restoration project on Hampstead Day 2005. Though not completely restored, the station
welcomed approximately 300 visitors that day! Many town residents were anxious to see the committee's progress.
Visitors remarked on the beautiful wood covering the station's interior walls. Others reminisced about childhood visits
to the station to ship farm goods or to pick up packages. Children enjoyed peeking through the ticket window into the
station's office. Older residents talked about watching the telegraph operator at work, waiting for the mail delivery
and the station's glory days.
It is evident that the Hampstead Train Station evokes
many fond memories from town residents and train buffs alike. HTSC committee members enjoyed meeting the public and
sharing our vision for our museum and visitor's center. We'd like to thank all those who visited, made donations and
purchased train station mementos!

What's New?
The Hampstead Train Station Committee has been busy
this summer! With the station's exterior complete, the committee has focused on finishing up interior renovations. Wainscoting has
been installed on all interior walls along with a new hardwood floor. New lighting has been installed indoors
and out. Plumbing and bathroom fixtures are complete. Our next step will be preparing artifacts
for display and developing exhibits for the museum and visitor's center! It is an exciting time at the train station
as we can see the results of many years of hard work paying off. You can find our volunteers working at the
station on most Saturdays. We will gladly accept any volunteer help!
Funding
Our committee is working hard to raise funds and collect
donations to support our renovation efforts. We are also fortunate enough to have received two generous grants. A $5,000.00
grant from Preservation Maryland has helped us finish the exterior lumber and painting of the train station. Also, the Maryland
Historical Trust has awarded our committee a $50,000.00 matching grant, which means the HTSC must raise or show in-kind donations
of $50,000.00.
We urgently need donations to meet
our match requirement for the MHT grant. Please send your tax deductible donations to P.O. Box 727, Hampstead, Maryland 21074.
This money will be used to finish the station's interior
and to pay for the recently installed new slate roof. With the support of local businesses, citizens, and historical organizations,
we are making steady progress toward our goal of opening a visitor's center and museum in our treasured train station.
